Lame Excuse

We’ve all heard the excuse “You can’t keep the Sabbath perfectly, so you shouldn’t even try!” from those who reject God’s Word. But let’s apply that line of reasoning to the rest of life, and see if that holds up:

“You can’t play softball perfectly, so you shouldn’t even try”

“You can’t love your neighbor perfectly, so you shouldn’t even try”

“You can’t stop lusting perfectly, so you shouldn’t even try”

“You can’t obey your parents perfectly, so you shouldn’t even try”

“You can’t obey American laws perfectly, so you shouldn’t even try”

As you can see, once broken down logically, this line of reasoning falls apart almost instantly. Why do we apply broken logic to commandments like the Sabbath that we would never use for anything else? No parent on earth would tell their child not to try to obey them because they can’t be perfect, so why do we think that our Heavenly Father operates any differently?
